Everyone Behaves In School

Dear Lewis Families,
Lewis Elementary School will continue to implement the behavior program called Everyone Behaves In School (EBIS).  Our goal is to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. This approach focuses on the school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. It is an approach to create a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel.

As a part of this program, we have established school-wide behaviors we expect in all areas of our school.  We will teach the expectations to the students and offer reinforcement frequently for appropriate behavior.  Our goal is that your child will be able to share with you at home what the behavior expectations are for our school, how they follow them and what happens when an adult sees them following those expectations.  Our behavior expectations are attached to this letter so that you can be a part of the reinforcement process at home.

We will be specifically focusing on ideal student behaviors, providing a safer, more productive school environment.  We will have consistent consequences and positive reinforcement for all students.  By detailing our expected behaviors and teaching those expectations to students in a positive way, we will create a common language in our building that includes students, staff and parents. Students will learn the lifelong guidelines of Trustworthiness, Truthfulness, Active Listening, Cooperation and Personal Best through regular class meetings.

We believe that by helping students to practice and learn what it means to be respectful, responsible and role model students, that we can create a school environment where all students succeed and grow academically as well as behaviorally.

We are looking forward to a great year together and building STARs (Students That Are Respectful, Responsible and Role models) among our students every day!
